Depth for what keeps returning
Psychodynamic therapy for adults and couples in Denver, for patterns that persist after you already understand the story. We take the work seriously, leave room for what is hard to name, and help you find a clinician whose way of working fits.
You may recognize yourself
This work is for people who…
-
Already understand the story, but the pattern persists
Insight alone hasn't shifted how you react in intimacy, at work, or under stress. You want to know why it still happens, not just what to do about it.
-
Carry shame, perfectionism, or a polished exterior
Slowing down feels exposing. Part of you wonders if you're broken; another part insists you should cope better. You need a room where both can speak.
-
Are stuck in a couple, or questioning whether to stay
The same injuries repeat. Communication strategies haven't touched what lives underneath. You want honesty, not another script.
-
Hold sustained pressure at work
Executives, clinicians, and other high-performers who look fine on paper but feel depleted, perfectionistic, or disconnected inside. You want therapy that respects complexity, not a performance plan.
-
Need clarity, not another guess
ADHD, mood, trauma, and personality: symptoms overlap. You want assessment that weaves your history with data, so treatment (here or elsewhere) actually fits.
The practice
Meaningful change rarely arrives through a workbook and a six-week plan. It arrives when something true can be said and met.Denver Psychotherapy & Counseling Group
How we work
What this practice is built on
Denver Psychotherapy and Counseling Group offers psychodynamic, depth-oriented psychotherapy for adults and couples. We stay with what is hard to name: unconscious patterns, what repeats, what gets avoided, feelings that arrive before words, and the relationship between client and therapist as part of the work itself. Meaningful change often emerges through emotional honesty and that relationship, not quick fixes, homework-driven treatment, or scripted tools.
Clinicians here share this foundation and bring a psychodynamic orientation to individual and couples work. The approach is exploratory rather than prescriptive. We are honest about fit: if you need primarily skills-based or highly directive care, we will help you find a better match elsewhere. Each clinician brings their own sensibility to the room.
Room for feeling
Some work needs a slower pace, with room for shame, attachment, and the parts of you that rarely get airtime before anyone asks for insight.
We trust that understanding often arrives when honesty is possible, not when it is demanded.
Room for clarity
Some work needs complexity held with care: what repeats, what is avoided, what your mind and body seem to be doing at once.
Thinking and feeling stay in conversation. Directness serves understanding, not performance.

Psychological assessment
Led by Shea McTaggart, PsyD · separate from therapy
Comprehensive evaluations for adults who need diagnostic clarity: testing, interview, and narrative woven together so results inform life, not just a chart.
Ways to begin
Three common starting points
Individual therapy
Long-standing emotional patterns, anxiety, depression, grief, and identity explored relationally, at your pace.
Couples therapy
Attachment, conflict, and the dynamics that repeat, including premarital work when the question is readiness, not performance.
Evaluation
Formal assessment for ADHD, mood, trauma-related questions, and overlapping presentations that need an integrated picture.
A good match
If you're seeking primarily skills-based, highly structured, or directive therapy, we'll help you find a better match. We're exploratory, relational, and comfortable with ambiguity, on purpose.
